What is your favourite children's book of all time?
Roald Dahl’s The Witches scared me silly, but not silly enough to stop me reading it dozens of times.
What books do you remember enjoying as a child?
I’ve got really strong memories of my mum reading Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood to me when I was young – I found the original book recently, and every illustration was a bolt of nostalgia.
Who are your favourite children's authors or illustrators?
Julia Donaldson for the wonderful words, Eric Carle (another strong memory from my childhood), Nosy Crow’s apps team for their marvellous fairy tales, and Jeanne Willis and Adrian Reynolds on the strength of Who’s In The Loo? alone!
How does it feel to be a Best Book Awards judge?
Honoured! I was chuffed to be asked. And also excited that there’s a Tech Stuff category – not just because lots of children are using devices to read, play and create, but because there’s so much good work being done by publishers and developers in this area.
